SUSSEX, NB- In light of recent events and comments around French Immersion, CPF NB is reminding the Premier that the recently released Grade 12 French Second Language Oral Proficiency results continue to demonstrate resounding success in New Brunswick’s French Immersion systems. Given the understandable skepticism amongst New Brunswickers on whether or not the provincial government is using sound data, CPF NB wants to ensure they are aware of their own statistics and results.

Provincial Assessment Results 2021-22 Grade 12 French Second Language Oral Proficiency

The Provincial Grade 12 French Second Language Oral Proficiency Assessment is administered each year to provide students with their proficiency level and to track system progress. Students are assessed either at the end of the first or second semester. The method used to rate students’ speaking proficiency is the individual oral proficiency interview (OPI). During the interview, the evaluator elicits a language sample that is rated using the criteria of the New Brunswick Oral Proficiency Scale (see appendix). Students receive a certificate indicating their oral proficiency level.

CPFNB submits position paper on the status of FSL learning in New Brunswick

Canadian Parents for French New Brunswick (CPFNB) submitted a position paper to the commissioners appointed by the Government of New Brunswick to study French Second Language within the context of the Official Language Act Review. This position paper consists of over 20 recommendations to improve FSL learning in the province and was completed in collaboration and partnership with la Société de l’Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick (SANB).
